The Salvation Army assists low-income families and individuals and families and individuals who are experiencing homelessness with emergency assistance as funds and supplies permit. The following is an explanation of the process and requirements you must meet to be eligible to receive services.

Our Mission: To support healthy family life and to assist low-income individuals and families as well as those experiencing homelessness through the provision of emergency short-term assistance, along with information and/or referrals for continuing or long-term help.

Emergency Food for Housed Individuals or Families (Food Boxes)

  • May receive food assistance once every 30 days, Tuesdays and Thursdays, by appointment only between 9:00 am – 11:45 am
  • Must be housed and able to refrigerate/freeze food and have access to appliances to prepare food
  • All the following is required upon your first visit and annually to determine eligibility:
    • Photo ID for each adult in the household
    • ID for each minor in the household (Medi-Cal card, school ID, or birth certificate)
    • Proof of local residency in Altadena, Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, or Sierra Madre (such as gas/light/phone bill, current rent receipt, or mail postmarked within the last 30 days)
    • Provide a statement of income within the last 30 days (paystub, welfare stub, social security printout, unemployment, or disability papers)

Household & Baby Supplies

  • Household items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and cleaning products are provided in each monthly food box
    • If you do not receive a monthly food box, they are available as supplies permit
  • Baby items such as shampoo, lotion, baby formula, baby furniture, etc. are available upon request and as supplies permit

Daily Food Assistance

  • Donated food is made available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 AM – 11:30 AM
  • All are welcome to receive items from the daily food pantry
  • If you are a food box recipient, you may not utilize the daily food pantry and receive a food box on the same day
  • No registration/requirements necessary
  • Our inventory changes daily; Please be aware this may affect what is available to each client, as well as the quantity that is available to each client
  • Each client must remain respectful and polite to all staff, volunteers, and peers receiving services; Failure to do so may result in termination of services

Clothing Assistance For Individuals Experiencing Homelessness

  • Clothing vouchers are only available to individuals experiencing homelessness
  • The completion of an intake with a staff member is required to receive a clothing voucher
  • A photo ID is required 
  • If eligible, a $25 clothing voucher is issued to be redeemed at The Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 56 W. Del Mar Avenue Pasadena, 91105 and must be used within 60 days
  • Recipients are only eligible to receive a clothing voucher once every 12 months

Hygiene Kits and Blankets

  • Available only to those experiencing homelessness
  • Available as supplies permit
  • Photo ID and the completion of an intake with our staff are required

ID Replacement

  • No Fee Identification Card voucher is available to those experiencing homelessness
  • Reduced Fee Identification Card voucher is available to those that are housed and of low income (receiving CalWORKs, GR, CFAP, CAPI, SSI/SSDI)
  • Each client may only receive a maximum of 3 vouchers a year
  • The completion of an intake with our staff is required

We are happy to assist you with all the services listed above. We are also available to provide emotional or spiritual support and referrals to other agencies.
